Oakley has been in the golf footwear business for a little more than a decade, but it has been only in the past few years that the southern California-based company has gotten serious about golf shoes. And industry observers believe that its latest offerings in this category demonstrate just how far Oakley has come.

Start with the Carbon Pro, a premium-leather, cleated shoe that is made to be lighter and lower to the ground than other products in its class. The uppers are waterproof, and carry a two-year warranty, and the shoes employ a dynamic motion control system for greater stability.

A PINS cleat system is made to help in that regard as well, and so is a carbon-fiber shank. In addition, Oakley’s Red Code Plus technology is designed to produce tuned shock absorption through superior cushioning and energy return.

Lightness is also a major selling point of the Cipher 2 shoes, which boast what the company calls Factory Lite technologies. The upper is a waterproof, one-piece synthetic skin, and conventional cleats on the sole have been replaced with thousands of NanoSpikes that are designed to bite into the turf for dependable surface grip.

According to Dave Ortley, director of footwear for Oakley, that feature puts golfers closer to the ground for better swing stability and balance, while the use of its Coreflex technology optimizes flexibility.

“Cipher 2 is a combination of comfort and performance that dominates,” he says. “And at 254 grams, it is the lightest in its class.”
