Nike Covert fairway woods Empty
PostSubject: Nike Covert fairway woods   Nike Covert fairway woods EmptyThu Apr 18, 2013 9:01 pm

With the rollout earlier this year of the Nike VR_S Covert driver, the Beaverton, Ore., equipment maker also released fairways and hybrids in that same line. Both have candy apple red clubheads with white swooshes on the lower right, and both feature the company’s proprietary High Speed Cavity Back, as well as Nike Golf’s NexCOR face technology.

The cosmetics of these clubs are pleasing, to be sure. But performance is what will really induce golfers to put these clubs in their bags. And Nike’s director of club product creation, Tom Stites, said the Covert fairways and hybrids have plenty of that.

As far as Stites is concerned, it all starts with the High Speed Cavity Back, a technology long used in irons but now applied by Nike Golf in metal woods. The company moved weight from the center-back of the sole to the corners of the clubhead, increasing Moment of Inertia for greater forgiveness and even more distance to off-center shots. In addition, these products are designed to provide more stability at impact and more energy to the ball.

As for the NexCOR technology, which Nike Golf has used in other club offerings, it is designed to deliver faster ball speed and longer shots from a wider area of the face. And it does that by utilizing variable face thickness that ups the ball speed off the clubface, especially on the bottom half, where players are most likely to make contact.

The Nike VR_S Covert fairways and hybrids are available in regular versions, which are made to produce a higher launch, and also Tour editions, which are more mid-launch in orientation. The Tour models also come with the clubmaker’s FlexLoft adjustability technology that allows golfers to choose their lofts and face angles independently of each other. As a result, they can fine-tune their Covert fairways and hybrids in an effort to optimize that all-important performance.
