Hello I'm Nelly Empty
PostSubject: Hello I'm Nelly   Hello I'm Nelly EmptyMon Nov 05, 2012 7:11 pm

Been posting on this forum for a while now, and just realized i never posted in this section introducing myself. I'm Nelly, would still consider myself an amateur I think, This being due to only playing one golf course every week for the past year, so I'm not sure how i would do at other courses.

Started playing golf July 2011, first course was the Encanto 18, since then have played the Palo Verde short 9 every Sunday morning, occasionally saturday afternoons. Its a par 31 and i have slowly worked my self from a consistent 50-55 to a consistent 35-39.

I play nothing but PING, mainly because when i started looking for a brand name club, the possibilities were endless, so i chose PING mainly because of the quality and they are locally based.

Up until a few weeks ago, I was fade/occasional slicer, but now its much more of a slight fade, hopefully straight after I get the K15 Driver and woods. Once my money situation improves will be searching for 4somes to join at different courses to hopefully learn from others just meet more golfers. Only vice would be that my girlfriend loves to come with me, she loves driving the carts lol so someone would be solo in one unless they brought another person as well to spectate.

Any questions just ask! Or if anyone wants to give me a free lesson let me know too! Very Happy

Ok, I was thinking after reading your post. You said you play the same course and you are now shooting 35-39. Maybe its time to try and change up how you play the current course your at. Here is what I am saying. I play a small 9 hole course about 3-4 times a month during the week when work is slow. I have done this for about a year. I got to the point where I was shooting one or two over par and could roll through the course with my eyes closed.

I decided that I would use the extra time during the week to work on my game instead of just playing golf. I knew that the first hole played at about 350. (I would use driver then have a simple wedge shot for my second). So I would play it as a par 5. I would treat being at the t-bx as my second shot and that I had 350 left to the green. I usually would play my "second" ( dont not t up) shot out to 150 so I have to hit a 4 iron or hybrid in as my "third" I would do this because long irons are hard to hit plus its even harder to get a long iron or hybrid to land soft and not roll out forever.

I would do this throughout the entire course. I would hit a short iron off another par 4 so I could play around some tree or work on more than my wedge game. On par 3's. I would start playing punch shots or take one or two clubs more than I would need and work on my timing and my touch.

Or play from the rough. Put your t shot in the sand or on the other fairway. Play your shot off an uphill or downhill lie. Change it up so when start going to other courses you will have more confidence

PostSubject: Thats an awesome idea!   Hello I'm Nelly EmptyWed Nov 07, 2012 9:44 am

Although i believe i just need to play longer courses. Since playing this course so often my short game is pretty decent, well i should take that back, 100 yards out with a 6 or 7 iron I'm good, but when it comes to really short shots, say from 20-30 yards or so i am not so good using a conventional swing. it seems the higher loft i go, the more i blade it which got really frustrating, so now i play it more as a long pitch and use a somewhat goofy looking bump and run technique which i have gotten really good at and can typically get with in 5-10 feet of the hole.

My biggest problem i would say would be distance. After trolling forums such as WRX and others, my distance is terrible, from about 120 yards I use my 6 iron, my G10 driver (soon to be a K15 this weekend) gets anywhere between 200-225.

I use a regular flex shaft right now, and will hopefully properly fitted this weekend. So far I pretty much fitted myself to what I've seen doing research on the internet.

I believe i do have a lot of untapped potential in my swing, just not sure how to generate more power. Not sure if i have no hip rotation, weight transfer or what. That i definitely need advice on.

An old swing instructor in high school use to have me do a drill that made me swing my driver similar to a baseball bat.

He would have me swing my driver as if I was hitting that perfect pitch but I would still be treating my grip and arms as if I was still golfing. I would hold my driver out in front of me and bring it back(my backswing in golf). He would then have me swing the club where a pitch would be. On the down swing he would have me swing like I am a batter at the plate. What I mean by this is watch the front foot of a really good hitter in Baseball. They move it forward and turn their body on that leg. The point was help teach me what proper hip rotation feels like. Start of at a medium pace and then work to a full swing without moving your forward leg

This drill, after about a month or so helped me gain about 15 yards throughout my bag.(when I was in high school of course.)

Got my K15 driver 10.5 degree yesterday!!! Only problem is that it is a stiff shaft flex, will be re shafting to a regular flex soon. Only cost $90 bucks at the Vans Golf Shop near my work!

Also got shaft fitted, on the swing monitor though was only getting an average of 66 mph..... Although i wasnt fully warmed up and really hitting as hard as i usually do, hoping I'm more in the 70's. Thing about it though is that he said i was a regular flex, research online says I'm more of a soft regular though, but he heavily suggested the regular flex, because he says the better i get the faster my swing speed will get, is this true?

Oh no not $90 dollars for reshafting lol $90 dollars for the K15 driver lol the reshafting fee from a guy i know is $10 bucks, plus the cost of what ever shaft i choose from. I know when i was speaking with him on the phone, he mentioned some Callaway shafts that worked great for other PING drivers, which sounds weird, but will check it out.

Once you get your confidence down youll be swinging harder also. I used to have a HORRIBLE slice but from a 5 minute lesson its slightly fixed. Now I swing harder and love it. I'm not familiar with the K15 driver so I hope it works out for you. if it doesnt I'm sure you can resell it and get yout money back.

Tried the driver this weekend, didnt fix my swing, still a fade/heavy fade, took it to the guy for the reshaft, and the first thing he did was measure the shaft. Turns out the shaft was 46 inches long. He then said that with a too long of a shaft that it would cause serious fade because the shaft isn't catching up with the ball at impact. Made tons of sense to me, although i'm not an expert. But he cut it down and put a new grip in for $6.50 and told me to try it to see if it goes straighter. If its not improved, we will go more into a re-shafting, he just wanted to take baby steps with it.

Will be taking it to Glen Lakes golf course at 54th ave and Northern on Wednesday at 5 to 5:30 to try it if anyone wants to hit a few balls!!! Not sure where you all stay but if that's your area, your more than welcome to come through!

I think it's something like $35-$45. It's a bit of a drive thought. You should totally go

My budget is typically 20-30 dollars and thats including cart, because the gf loves to drive it and also likes keeping track of the score lol. I doubt i can go this weekend, but next weekend may be a possibility.

On another note, i took my driver to the range and completely reworked my swing. Brought my feet closer together because it seemed having them so far apart i was losing power and distance cause i couldn't rotate my hips as much? i have no clue lol I also have a much slower backswing allowing me to corkscrew my torso a whole lot more and really crank out my head speed, now with my 6 iron i'm gettin about 150-160. My jaw completely dropped when i saw the consistency!

One other thing i tried that is working out REALLY well is a technique i learned from the custom golf repair guy of how to hit a draw. So i tried it to see if it would straighten out my shot and it did! The thing he told me to do was to set up my feet how i would normally, then take a step back with my right foot. pretty much so its behind left foot lined up but obviously the same width apart. That sounds confusing, but not sure how else to say it lol
